1. The service
TitleRead reads vehicle title documents, bills of sale and related paperwork that you upload and returns the information found in them as structured data, with a confidence score and page position for each value. The output is an automated reading of a document produced by machine-learning models. It is not a title search, a lien search, a legal opinion or a determination of ownership, and it can be wrong. You are responsible for checking any value before you rely on it, and for any decision you make with it.
The service is offered to businesses and professionals. By using it you confirm that you are at least 18, that you are using it for business purposes, and that if you act for a company you have authority to bind it.
2. Your account
You sign in with an email address you control, by an emailed link or a password you set. You are responsible for everything done through your account and your API keys. Keep your password and keys confidential; revoke a key in the dashboard the moment you think it has leaked, and tell us at hello@titleread.com if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
3. Your documents and the law
Vehicle titles contain personal information about owners, buyers, sellers and lienholders. You represent and warrant that for every document you upload:
- you hold it lawfully and are entitled to have it processed;
- your use of the personal information in it is a permitted use under the laws that apply to you, including, for records that originate from a state motor vehicle agency, the Driver's Privacy Protection Act, 18 U.S.C. § 2721, and its state counterparts;
- you have given any notice and obtained any consent that those laws require.
We process documents only on your instructions, to provide the service to you. We act as your processor (or service provider, in the language of California law) for the contents of your documents. We do not sell them, share them with other customers, or use them to train general-purpose models.
4. Acceptable use
You must not:
- upload documents you have no right to process, or use the service to collect personal information for a purpose the law does not permit;
- try to access another customer's data, probe or test the security of the service without our written agreement, or interfere with its operation;
- send abusive volumes of requests, circumvent rate limits or credit accounting, or share one account across unrelated businesses;
- resell or white-label the service without a written agreement with us;
- use the output to make decisions about individuals that the law requires a human or a licensed professional to make;
- use the service in breach of any sanctions, export-control or anti-money-laundering law.
5. API and keys
The API is documented at /docs. We may change it in backward-compatible ways at any time and will give at least 60 days' notice by email before removing or changing anything in a way that could break your integration, except where a security issue requires faster action. Webhook endpoints you register must be public HTTPS addresses under your control.
6. Credits, fees and refunds
The service is prepaid. One credit is used for each vehicle read: a group of pages sharing a VIN that contains a title or a bill of sale. Pages that belong to no vehicle, and reads that fail entirely, cost nothing. A document you ask us to read again is charged again. Prices are shown before purchase and may change for future purchases; credits already bought keep their value. Credits do not expire. Credits are not transferable between accounts.
Refunds are described in our refund policy, which forms part of these terms. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see your card number. Taxes, where they apply, are added at checkout.
7. Data, retention and sub-processors
How we handle data is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms. In short: documents, page images and results are deleted after the retention window you set (1 to 365 days; 30 by default) or sooner when you delete them; account, billing and usage records are kept while your account exists and as long as tax law requires; our sub-processors are listed on the privacy page and we will notify you by email at least 30 days before adding one. A data processing addendum for customers who need one is available on request.
8. Intellectual property
You keep all rights to the documents you upload and to the results we return for them. We keep all rights to the service, its software, models, prompts, reading rules and documentation. You may use the results for your own business without restriction. Corrections you make on the review page may be used, together with the document they refer to and for as long as that document is retained, to test and improve the service's accuracy; this never results in your document being shown to another customer.
9. No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that any reading is correct or complete, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows: our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the service, in contract, tort or otherwise, is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim; and neither party is liable to the other for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or business, even if advised of their possibility. A value we read incorrectly, and anything you do in reliance on it, is covered by this section. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud or wilful misconduct.
11. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify us against any third-party claim, and the reasonable costs of dealing with it, that arises from a document you uploaded without the right to do so, from your use of personal information in breach of section 3, or from your breach of section 4.
12. Suspension and termination
You may close your account at any time by emailing hello@titleread.com. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, that we are required by law to close, or that has not been used for 24 months, with notice by email where the law or good practice allows. On closure your documents and results are deleted as described in the privacy policy, and unused credits are forfeited except as the refund policy or the law provides.
13. Changes
We may change these terms. For material changes we give at least 30 days' notice by email to the address on your account; continued use after the effective date is acceptance. Changes required by law or to address a security issue may take effect sooner. Each version shows its effective date at the top.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois and the federal law of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before starting any proceeding, each party agrees to write to the other and try in good faith to resolve the dispute within 30 days. Any claim that is not resolved is brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Cook County, Illinois, and each party submits to their jurisdiction. Either party may seek an injunction in any court to protect its intellectual property or confidential information.
15. General
These terms, with the privacy and refund policies, are the whole agreement between us about the service and replace any earlier discussion. If a court finds any part unenforceable the rest stands. Neither party is liable for delay caused by events beyond its reasonable control. You may not assign these terms without our consent; we may assign them to a successor to our business on notice. Notices to us go to hello@titleread.com; notices to you go to the email address on your account.
